Danes are the happiest people on earth. That's a fact! At least according to countless studies conducted on the subject. Take a stroll through the beautiful Danish capital on a summer's day, and you understand why. Beautiful architecture, lots of water and friendly, good-looking people on bikes everywhere.
To be fair, in winter it is a bit tougher to fall in love with Denmark and Copenhagen at first sight. But of course, the inventive Danes found a way to tackle that problem, too. They actually even invented a word for that: “Hygge”! Ranked third place in a survey conducted about the world's most loveable words that cannot be translated, it roughly translated to something like “the complete lack and absence of anything annoying” and means cozy apartments, candlelight, and good people and food around.
You see, Denmark ranks up there in about every study there is. Time to find out why. Here are our favorite spots to visit in 12hrs in Copenhagen.

Contemporary luxury hotel Nobis Hotel Copenhagen has a prime location in the heart of the Danish capital, in a historic building on Niels Brocks Gade 1, off H. C. Andersen Boulevard. The hotel has 77 rooms, with four suites, all housed in a historic landmark building erected in 1903. Designed by architect Martin Borch, it is one of the first concrete building structures in the Danish capital. For many years, it housed the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music.
With interiors designed by Swedish star architect Gert Wingårdh and Wingårdhs, the new hotel offers the same concept as its Stockholm predecessor — elegant and timeless design, superior comfort with great service, but it is also personalized, sharp and updated in every detail. Nobis feels free of traditional luxury gimmicks and never stuffy. Amenities include a small pool, a gym, and a relax lounge. There are a bar and lounge area connected to the 80-seat Niels Restaurant.

The fashion label Norse from Copenhagen has been an insider tip among streetwear fans for many years but for a long time, they didn’t offer any clothes specifically for women. Luckily, they are now designing a women’s collection on top of their regular one and even opened a store dedicated to that right next door from their main flagship store in the city center. On the shelves, you’ll find their beautiful Scandinavian basics as well as selected designs from other brands and as a small selection of books, jewelry, and perfume.

Apollo Bar is the museum café at Kunsthal Charlottenborg, but it is also a destination on its own. Run by chef and creator Frederik Bille Brahe, who also owns the popular Atelier September on Gothersgade, it is a great place to have lunch, but also a cozy café and meeting place, serving inventive dishes throughout the day.
The space is inviting and feels arty, with high ceilings and statues on display. Visitors sit on chairs covered with small paint splatters which are borrowed from the art school next door. That art school’s cantine is the second place in the building where Bille Brahe set up shop, offering a delicious and healthy lunch every day that doesn’t break the bank, with a choice between a vegetarian and a meat dish. The canteen is open and accessible to the public on weekdays between 11.30am and 2pm, the café stays open all day.

Although Grundtvigt’s Church is a simple building, it is absolutely breathtaking. Light and airy, its Western facade looks just like the backdrop to a fantasy movie. It was built out of six million yellow bricks to honor Danish philosopher and pastor Nikolai Frederik Severin Grundtvig from 1920 until 1941 and fits 1.800 worshippers, making it Denmark’s church with the most seats.

Opened in 2012 and owned by Adeline and Rasmus Shepherd-Lomborg, the people behind the popular Ruby cocktail bar in the city center of Copenhagen, Lidkoeb is one of Copenhagen’s best bars.
The building was erected in 1886 by pharmacist H.P. Madsen and for more than 100 years, it housed the production facility of Vesterbro pharmacy. Now, after extensive renovations and refurbishments, it’s a sprawling bar on three floors. The ground floor hosts the main room, dominated by the long oak counter, the high draught taps, and a cozy open fireplace. Everything is kept light and classic, but with a modern Danish touch. In summer the doors open to a big courtyard.
The bar on the first floor is open to guests on the weekends, and the same is true for the top floor, where you can find Lidkoeb’s new Whiskey bar that focusses solely on Whiskeys from around the world.
